To help you make informed and safe decisions about what’s appropriate for you and your whanau, NEON assigns age ratings and content warnings in line with the Films, Videos and Publications Classification (Commercial Video on Demand) Amendment Act 2020.
Content is either self-rated by NEON, issued by the Film and Video Labelling Body, or classified by Te Mana Whakaatu/NZ Classification Office.
You can filter out certain content by Setting up your Parental Controls.
The classifications are:
 | Suitable for general audiences. People of all ages can view this content safely. There is no language, violence or other material that will upset children. |
 | Parental guidance recommended for younger viewers. Can be viewed by anyone. Unaccompanied children can watch this content, but it could contain coarse language, low-level violence or scary scenes that requires the guidance of a parent or guardian. |
 | Suitable for mature audiences. Can be viewed by anyone but may contain content with a moderate impact that requires a mature outlook, including violence, sexual material, offensive language and other strong themes. |
 | Unsuitable for audiences 13 years and under. May include sexual material, offensive language, violence, and themes such as suicide, sexual violence, and drug use. Reading the applied content warning is recommended. |
 | Unsuitable for audiences 16 years and under. May include sexual material, offensive language, realistic violence, and themes such as suicide, sexual violence, and drug use. Reading the applied content warning is recommended. |
 | Unsuitable for audiences 18 years and under. May include sexual material, offensive language, graphic violence, and themes such as suicide, sexual violence, and drug use. Themes may be challenging, even to some adult viewers. Reading the applied content warning is recommended. |
Content warnings
NEON content also includes content warnings so viewers can make informed decisions and receive plenty of warning before viewing. For example – offensive language, violence, sex scenes, drug use, suicide, sexual violence, drug use, nudity, and content that may disturb.
Where to find these labels
Age ratings and content warnings will display directly under the title of a TV series or film on the relevant show page, as well as in the top-left corner of the screen once you start streaming.
NOTE: Age ratings and content warnings on show pages show the highest assigned rating/classification (such as 18) across the entire series. Different seasons of the same series may have different age ratings. The display of these labels may vary, depending on format and device. For example, content warnings will display under the title on web and mobile platforms, and in the ‘information’ tab on your TV.
